In life, no matter what age we are, we have all had some time to develop habits, personalities, belief and thinking systems that will travel with us – things that are familiar and deemed part of the fabric of the cloth that shapes us. But, we are oftentimes so accustomed to who we have been, that we do not realize when we have outgrown the thing that was the exact fit at the times in the past when the particular fit was required.
If you are now at the point where you are indeed sensing that it is time for a re-fitting, you have to be able to recognize the signs. So, how do we recognize that the ‘right fit’ no longer suits us? Every time we become frustrated with doing something that we have always done before; which has always worked before – but no longer produces the same results, we can say that it may be time to change our fit.
Our past fit either fits too loosely or too tightly. This may mean that we need to try new and bigger things. Our dreams have somehow expanded and the vessel is no longer big enough to hold it. Perhaps, we have not even grown to match where our past dreams wanted to take us. If we are experiencing this, we may need to do a re-visioning to get to where we need to be. Who we were at the stage of life that we were, is no longer enough to take us where we need to be. It could be that we need to establish new business connections, deepen an existing business relationship or improve our own personal growth and development. Whatever we do must take us towards achieving a goal in the future.
Habitually reflecting on your goals and mission will enable you to make a better assessment of where you wanted to go; what you needed to get there; how near or how far away you are from that location – have you diverted from the path? Have you already gotten there and not realize? What new push do you need to get there? Do you still need to get there?
Life is all about growing, maturing and moving to the next stage of growth. While maturity is usually celebrated as a milestone and a strong sign that you are growing up, it also signals a very uncomfortable and unfamiliar time for most of us. We all want to grow and mature in our professional and personal lives; in our family life and our everyday relationships. In order to do so, we need to recognize when things need to shift in order to match the final product – the final person – the mature and finished outcome.
Do not be ashamed or embarrassed to track how you fit into your current vision. Owning your current fit and making adjustments to ensure that your fit is right for where you want to go is what shows that you are aligning to your ultimate path.
So, start now:
- Define what you want
- Assess where you are. Are you the same person? Is your Vision the same?
- Discover what you need to take you exactly to where you want to go
- Align your current situation to your future Vision
Celebrate! Relax! You have now found your Right Fit! But, do not remain there till your fit becomes too tight or too loose. Go back again. Continue to assess. Continue to grow into your True Fit!
